Democrat Val Nosler Beck Announces Candidacy for HD-23

WHEAT RIDGE, COLO. — Thurs., May 8, 2025 — Local small-business owner, former city councilwoman and cancer survivor Val Nosler Beck today announced her candidacy for Colorado House District 23.

“I’m running because I know firsthand how broken systems—from health care to housing—are failing Colorado families,” said Nosler Beck. “I survived stage three rectal cancer but went broke navigating our health system. We need leaders at the Capitol who understand the urgency of reform and who won’t stop fighting until we deliver for hardworking Coloradans.”

Jeffco’s House District 23 has seen significant challenges in recent years, such as the closure of 16 public schools, including one attended by Nosler Beck’s children. Her campaign will focus on strengthening community infrastructure through better support for public schools, expanded access to affordable housing and comprehensive health care reform.

Nosler Beck’s priorities include:

  • Fixing Our Broken Health care System: “After a cancer misdiagnosis, I’ve lived with the consequences of a system that doesn’t work for working people—especially small-business owners and moms like me. We must expand access to timely and affordable care.”

  • Strengthening Neighborhood Schools and Families: “School closures are a symptom of broader problems—from housing instability to underfunded public education. We need bold solutions to stabilize neighborhoods and give families the support they deserve.”

  • Building Stronger, More Resilient Communities: “As a Wheat Ridge City Councilor during the COVID pandemic, I saw how essential schools, small businesses and communities are to navigating crises. We need to prioritize working families who are doing everything right but are still struggling to pay their bills.”

Nosler Beck has received early endorsements from community leaders across Jefferson County who have worked with her and trust her leadership:

  • Jessie Danielson, State Senator: “Val’s service to our community comes from the deep love and passion she has for her city and for all of Colorado. I’ve witnessed her dedication firsthand—standing up for her neighbors, taking on tough fights and delivering for her community. I am proud to endorse her.”

  • Alvina Vasquez, Wheat Ridge Resident and community leader: "Val takes the time to truly listen and understand the root of any issue, approaching challenges with determination and persistence. Whether through policy changes or advocacy, Val is relentless in her efforts to find solutions and deliver meaningful results."

  • Korey Stites, Wheat Ridge Mayor Pro Tem: “Val knows how to bring people together and get things done. She’s been a force for good in our city, and I have no doubt she’ll be a powerful voice for us at the State Capitol.”

Val Nosler Beck served on Wheat Ridge City Council from 2019 to 2024, where she focused on responsive governance and community resilience. She is the founder and principal of Upstream Consulting. She also founded The Steady, a training program that prepares the next generation of Colorado leaders. A lifelong Coloradan and outdoor enthusiast, Nosler Beck lives in Wheat Ridge with her husband and two children.
